Today we got up early and headed to the Netherlands where we first stopped at the Emsland Moormuseum in the city of Groβ Hesepe. Here we learned about the peat production of the bog land and how unique this part of the Netherlands is compared to bogs all over the world. We also toured the property and saw all the species of traditional farm animals that were headed for extinction due to unpopularity or selective breeding. The main goal of this preservation is to continue the lines of these historical cattle, sheep, pigs and chickens.
We ate a small lunch at the museum café and then got back on the bus headed for Pieterburen. Driving through the country side was just amazing because all of the farms and houses are so neatly manicured and always have gorgeous flowers. This quaint small town is filled with little brick houses with big windows and lots of character. We are staying at hotel called Waldenweelde and it is so precious with lots of charm… We walked up and down the streets of the small town to end up at a little restaurant next to our hotel where I ate a salmon and tapenade sandwich with fries . I had quite possibly my favorite beer of the trip called Zeekraal Rose which is a Kersen Rose beer… It was sweet and pink in color. I could drink those like lemonade! Now we are off to sleep because tomorrow is a big day at the seal rehabilitation center in Pieterburen…
